"BIG STUD" P-47D-10-RE (42-75008) flown by Lieutenant Colnel Robert L. Baseler,the 325th fighter group, 1944 Italy. Lt. Colonel Bob Baseler was first sent to North Africa by USS RANGER with his P-40F on January 1944. He joined the actual war as a commander of the 325th FG, the 319th FS. After he recorded five scores in Africa, he moved to Italy and changed to P-47 on October 1943. Then he was engaged in escort missions for bombing to northern Italy. He recorded sixth and his last score. After that, the 325th FG changed P-51Bs and Ds and had fought until the end of the war. |
